Giving birth is hard work and the months that come after it are not any easier. My son is now 3 and a half months old so I’m created a list of things that helped me through the first few months with a new baby.
Heavy duty pads: First of all after you give birth, you’re going to bleed, a lot. Personally I used Always Infinity Flexfoam overnight pads, these were the most comfortable for me as they were not super bulky. Most hospitals do provide you with pads and you can even ask for some to take home, but I never ended up using the hospital ones once I got home. Lets be real those made me feel like i had a huge pillow between my legs.. not exactly comfortable on my sore lady bits.
Peri Bottle: Okay this thing was my best friend. Peeing after you give birth isn’t exactly the most pleasant thing, the hospital should provide you with a peri bottle, it’s basically a squirt bottle for you to put warm water in to splash on your lady bits while you potty. I recommend using this, I used it for a long time after giving birth and it definitely helped.
ClaraDerm: I’m pretty sure this stuff was sent from heaven. My amazing Aunt sent me this while I was pregnant and I had now idea how much it was going to help. With healing comes itching and burning, I would spray this stuff on my bits and like magic it relieved it. You can get it here.
Nipple Balm: With breastfeeding comes sore nipples. I did not breastfeed for as long as I hoped but when I did I used nipple balm to help with sore nipples from breastfeeding and pumping.
Nipple Shield: In the hospital I talked to so many different lactation consultants and none of them even recommended these to me, it wasn’t until my sons first pediatric appointment his pediatrician recommended that I used these and they were a game changer. He finally latched so much better and would not scream as much. If you are having problems with breastfeeding definitely look into this.
Breast pads/Nursing tops: The whole time I breastfed I lived in nursing tanks, they made it so much easier to pop him right on the boob. Along with the nursing tanks I used breast pads, I leaked so much in the beginning these were so helpful to have me not walking around with wet spots on my shirt (that didn’t stop me from still walking around like that when I forgot to put them on).
Stretch Mark Lotion: Most of my stretch marks showed up right after I gave birth and in the last few weeks, I used lotion throughout my pregnancy but that doesn’t always prevent them. I used Palmer Tummy Butter on my stretch marks and it has helped fade them so much, I know they won’t go away but this definitely reduces the appearance of them for me.
Essential Oils: So many times I just had to have my mom take the baby so I could unwind and try to relax, I would take a hot bath with essential oils to help. My favorites to use were Ylang Ylang and Lavender.
Dry Shampoo: Okay I admit I didn’t wash my hair as often as I should have in the beginning so dry shampoo was a must to keep the oil in my hair from drowning me, okay that may be a little dramatic but you get the point.
